Ready for snow!

Well, aside from the jelly shoes anyway. =)

Climbing the dune

We spent one day of the TC vaca climbing the dunes. Kevin and Mason took off with a strong start and beat Colby and I up the dune by quite a bit. Colby complained the whole way up and the way down and kept asking to be carried, but she made it all by herself. In the end, she tells me that she really like it. I don't know how Mason did as he was way ahead of us with Kevin, but I'm pretty sure that Kevin didn't carry him either. =) Colby and I just did the first dune while Kevin and Mason did the next one as well. If you want to see a pic of Kevin and Mason at the top, you'll have to join facebook and befriend my sister. =)
The kids playing in the sand. This, I believe was Colby's favorite part of the climb.

DC trip

This past week the kids, my mom and I headed out to the DC area to hang out with my brother. We all had a great time! The kids took some time figuring out how to fall alseep in the same room together. =) Colby insisted on bringing "baby" everywhere she went. And, both kids did wonderfully on the 9-10hr car rides.
The first day we had headed out to Ikea to buy some stuff to decorate Uncle Jon's apartment. The ride home was quite interesting; I'm not sure that we could have fit more things in the cr-v. =)

Kitchen updates

Art over the couch

New corner light. I wish this had been there the night before as I finished my book. =)

New tv stand

And to help decorate Uncle Jon's apartment, the kids pitched in and made some art decor for the dining room.

To start out day of sight-seeing, we took the metro into DC. The kids thought it was great! They both found it amusing that we rode backwards and everytime we were in a tunnel portion, they claimed they could see worms through the window. =)

After a brief walk through the scuplture park, we arrived at the air and space museum. The kids seemed to enjoy checking stuff out.... I on the other hand, was too concerned about losing a kid that I'm afraid I missed out on most of the info learning part of things. (Kevin and I were thinking of heading out there the two of us so we could get a good look at things.) Some air and space pics...

And these are some pics of us visiting the natural history museum. Colby was a little short for most of the hands on things but all in the all, the kids seemed to enjoy everything. We'll have to head back at some point as we only saw about half of the place. It was huge!!!

Camp Genva

Well to get the ball rolling on what's been going on the last couple of weeks, we'll start with this:

Mason spend a week at Camp Geneva, a camp that I went to as a kid and even my dad went to as a kid. =) It was just a day camp kind of thing and we opted for the bus ride in for him from one of the local churches (highly recommend). Now before you get all angry that I let a 5 y/o take a bus trip from Grandville to Holland, please note that this was a huge charter bus that had nice plush seats. The last day he had a nice little program and the song "Pharoh, Pharoh" was the most memorable with Colby singing it for days afterward. Caleb spent the week hanging out with him which I think really helped him get into things and it was nice having Caleb around to "show him the ropes". In the end, it sounds like Mason had a ton of fun at camp. He claims capture the ball was his favorite part of things but they also had carnival day and a super cool pool area. Though, it sounds like they didn't get the chance to swim in Lake Michigan because it was so cold and the waves were a bit high. All in all, we look forward to doing this again next year. =)

While Mason was at camp, Kevin picked up massive amounts of OT on the bike team hanging out at the A2 art fair. And, Colby and I hung out at my parents house. We did some shopping, some cleaning, some playing outside and some hanging with great-grandparents. I found a new book series and in the last couple of weeks have read all 9 books within that series AND even managed to finish one of my online classes. (So, I finished the last book that I had and the next one wasn't in from Amazon yet.) We also spent the weekend before Geneva camping out at Sand Lake which went very well aside from getting kids to actually fall asleep in a reasonable amount of time. The kids have both talked about how they want to do that again. Since camp, Kevin hurt his knee, kids have spent a couple of days at home and currently the kids, me and my mom are all in the DC area visiting my brother, but more on that later.

Yummy!

This morning the kids decided that they wanted blueberry muffins. Being the good mom that I am, I looked up a recipe and made the muffins. (Seriously, what else am I going to do with the 2lb container that was on too good a deal to pass up.) They turned out fabulously! Mason states that he ate 5. (Growth spurt is coming!)

To Die for Blueberry Muffins found at allrecipes.com
INGREDIENTS
* 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
* 3/4 cup white sugar
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 2 teaspoons baking powder
* 1/3 cup vegetable oil
* 1 egg
* 1/3 cup milk
* 1 cup fresh blueberries
* 1/2 cup white sugar
* 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
* 1/4 cup butter, cubed
* 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

DIRECTIONS
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease muffin cups or line with muffin liners.
2. Combine 1 1/2 cups flour, 3/4 cup sugar, salt and baking powder. Place vegetable oil into a 1 cup measuring cup; add the egg and enough milk to fill the cup. Mix this with flour mixture. Fold in blueberries. Fill muffin cups right to the top, and sprinkle with crumb topping mixture.
3. To Make Crumb Topping: Mix together 1/2 cup sugar, 1/3 cup flour, 1/4 cup butter, and 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon. Mix with fork, and sprinkle over muffins before baking.
4. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes in the preheated oven, or until done.

Also today I downloaded Mason's camera so he would have room to take pictures on our nature hike this afternoon. Kevin probably won't be as amused by this, but doesn't it look a little like Buzz Lightyear is goosing him?
